Theme-vowel class indeterminacy and root allomorphy in Slovenian

Slovenian verbs have been analyzed as displaying non-local root allomorphy which gets triggered across the theme vowel (Božič 2016; 2019). We reevaluate data (using a larger set of verbs) and reconsider structure verb in (focusing primarily on position vowel). show that only occurs very limited number theme-vowel classes, making inventory classes crucial for correct analysis allomorphy. further an overwhelming majority with is ambiguous these can be belonging to different classes. propose way resolving ambiguity present terms phonologically conditioned allomorph selection. In proposed model, combines Distributed Morphology Optimality Theory, single Vocabulary Item complex phonological representation inserted then constraints select final shape exponent (Kager 2008). all locally restricted phase spelled out.
